"This Is The Beginning" is the longest track ever released by post-rock powerhouse LIGHTS & MOTION (now with 225 Million global streams) clocking in at a whopping 10:20. The new single features over 50 individually recorded guitar tracks and a strong percussive element to convey both intimate and cinematic emotions that simply cannot be put into words. Written, produced, mixed and mastered by Christoffer Franzen.
"A foundational song for Lights & Motion, through my new single I wanted to strip back the production to feature the core instrument group of guitars, bass and drums, then added some sonic fairydust, vocal harmonies and softly orchestrated strings. This is both the longest song that I have ever written in over a decade of songwriting clocking in at over 10 minutes. It also features more guitar recordings than any other track I've ever composed. The guitar really is such a unique instrument to write on, compared to piano or synthesizers, and that DNA is forever imprinted on the songs. It's the instrument that lets me be the most expressive, I think, because there is a connection to the guitar for me that goes back a long time," says Franzen.
Franzen continues, "The song features the guitars and drums feeding off each other, constantly building and going from quiet to loud, taking the listener on a long sonic journey. In fact, the drums have been given a big roll in the production / mix, because they are such a force of propulsion that they truly acted as a songwriting tool. My hope is for this song to be experienced as both intimate and cinematic in scope, conveying emotions that I couldn’t put into words. I really felt a creative spark writing this kind of post-rock again, and this wont be the last song that I sit down and write this year."
